BLACK KIDS ACADEMY supports the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). The Framework recognizes that early childhood is a vital period in children’s learning and development. EYLF embodies the idea of ‘BELONGING, BEING & BECOMING:

  • BELONGING: is all about children’s relationships with the people and communities around them. Children belong first to a family, a cultural group, a neighborhood, and a wider community. This sense of belonging forms the basis of a child’s sense of identity. This requires recognizing and integrating the uniqueness of our community into our daily practices. It also means working with families to ensure children’s needs are met.

  • BEING: simply means allowing children to be children. It is about the present and children learning about themselves, engaging in all the experiences life has to offer, and meeting everyday challenges. This also means we help your children to explore the world around them, take safe risks, and make mistakes in order to learn valuable lessons.

  • BECOMING: focuses on children’s growth and development in these early years. It is these formative years in which children’s identities, knowledge, understandings, capacities, skills, and relationships change and evolve depending on surrounding events and environments. In an early learning setting, this means providing a nurturing and stimulating environment that helps children learn about themselves and the world around them.

ALL CHILDREN ARE WELCOME

BLACK KIDS ACADEMY  aspires to cultivate a community in which our children regardless of cultural background, family structure, and socio-economic class will feel embraced, valued, empowered, and validated. Although, all children are welcome to apply, please understand we do pray and meditate to give thanks daily. When we pray we say the name JESUS, Yeshua, Abba, Elohim, LORD, Father, and Yahweh.

Love and Spiritual Development permeates all aspects of our lives. It is expressed and celebrated in our ethos, relationships, and the holistic development of each child. We strive to ensure that every child realizes and reaches their true potential. Our Spiritual Development is person-centered, inclusive, and rooted in Values, Morals, Self Discipline, and keeping the commandments of GOD. We also promote the spirit of charity, social justice, and global awareness leading to practical outreach and partnerships with others in our community.

We encourage our children to develop a positive sense of themselves and their faith, along with a respect for the beliefs and values of others. We encourage our children to be committed to their beliefs, values, and morals and to have the courage to stand up for them. All our children are free from bullying  and we acknowledge, embrace, and celebrate diverse cultures and backgrounds. Our focus is on encouraging each child to become personally, emotionally, and socially effective, to lead healthy, safe and fulfilled lives, and to become independent and responsible citizens.

Democracy encompasses freedom, responsibility, and participation. Our children become competent and active citizens by making meaningful decisions and fulfilling real responsibilities. The three-way partnership between BLACK KIDS ACADEMY , their home, and those within their community is crucial. Specific attention is given to the development of moral thinking, values, actions, and to celebrate their uniqueness.

Here all children will be categorized by their gender they were born with, gender and name listed on their Legal Birth Certificates and Social Security Cards. If you feel this is not something that works for you, your child(ren), or your family then we understand that BLACK KIDS ACADEMY may not be a good fit for you. There will be no exceptions to this rule for anyone.

OUR GUIDELINES OF ACCEPTANCE

We do not do "first come first served" at BLACK KIDS ACADEMY . We receive many membership applications each year and have only a few available spots because we intentionally want low ratios. New enrollee selection is made with thoughtful consideration of the dynamic, age, testing, profiles, families skills, and abilities to contribute to our overall education goals, openings available, and community balance. There will be an initial tour and an assignment. It may be necessary to arrange a second visit or gather additional information about your child before a final decision is made.

At BLACK KIDS ACADEMY  admission decisions fall into three categories: conditional admission, probationary admission and denial of admission. Conditional admissions are reviewed yearly for continuing enrollment. Probationary admissions are reviewed quarterly or sooner for continued enrollment. Denial of admission can be the result of many factors and does not prohibit a family from applying again.

BLACK KIDS ACADEMY reserves the right to deny acceptance of children and to determine whether we are an appropriate hybrid homeschool for families.

BLACK KIDS ACADEMY  reserves the right not to continue enrollment or not to re-enroll child(ren).

BLACK KIDS ACADEMY  reserves the right to deny enrollment with non-disclosure of reasons.  There is no process for appeal. All our decisions are final. If we have made this decision, you will be notified through Facebook Messenger. You will have 4 days to remove all belongings in such cases. Any items not removed within that time frame will either be discarded or donated.

BLACK KIDS ACADEMY  believes that a positive constructive working relationship between us and each parent is essential to the fulfillment of our main goal.

SERVICING THOSE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Every child is different. Each one has a special set of qualities, skills, and brings their own blend of experiences and perspectives. Every child has their own unique family, cultural group, neighborhood, and belongs to a wider community. We understand that some children learn differently and we are willing to work with each child to teach them in a way that they understand, grow, and learn.

This is why at BLACK KIDS ACADEMY , there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ program. We strive to create and take a unique approach to bring out the best in their emerging competencies, interests, and strengths. We welcome children of any skill level, we assess each child, and we determine if we have the necessary skills to meet their individual needs. If we feel we can not meet their needs we will discuss with the parents about disenrolling them. Please be aware that we are not trained or qualified to support those with emotional and/or behavioral needs or limitations. Thank you for your understanding! Our decisions will be final despite their previous grades or academic achievements.

We assist parents in identifying areas of improvement and work closely with our children. If we conclude additional services are needed; we will support and guide families through the evaluation process and advocate for your child to receive services. These services can include occupational therapy, counseling, speech, language, and/or physical therapy.

Although we wish we could accept all children there are some restrictions:

The area and bathroom where the children meet is upstairs. Unfortunately, this prevents children who are wheelchair-bound to become a member. We do not have the additional staff needed, a handicap ramp, handicap bathrooms, or ADA compliant indoor facility for wheelchair-bound children. Because of that, it is just not feasible at this time. We also cannot currently accommodate children who use a comfort pet or eye seeing pets as there are no pets allowed on this property.

We may have other medical conditions that will not be able to enroll at this time.

We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause some parents and their children. We hope you do find somewhere suitable for your child(ren) because we believe INclusion is a right due to all children.

“Always keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling bad or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging. ” ~Hank Aaron

BLACK KIDS ACADEMY VALUES

Each child is a unique individual, with his/her own positive potential. This potential is enhanced through a deep commitment to the whole child and his or her family.

BLACK KIDS ACADEMY  feels strongly that the process of becoming a moral, ethical, creative, productive, and fulfilled person and citizen begins at birth. We realize the importance of parents' involvement therefore we place a great deal of emphasis on building strong relationships with parents and grandparents. You are the most significant adult in your child's life. We are committed to working with you in guiding your child's development during these exciting formative years of discovery. We believe that knowing the families of the children we teach is just as important as knowing the children we teach.

We provide a sensory-rich environment where parents share their child’s first school experience outside of the home. Parents and children can work, play, learn, and grow together as a family and as a supportive community for each other and create a positive attitude towards future learning. We encourage positive self-image, inner confidence, self-respect, personal responsibility, and dignity for every child.

BLACK KIDS ACADEMY  believes that children should be empowered with basic decision-making to learn the consequences of right/wrong and good/poor choices. In some instances we will stress continuity, consistency, and structure; all administered in an environment of love, kindness, and discipline. We believe that children learn from the example of others, particularly those adults responsible for their care.

We will strive to help foster a love of learning in them while having fun. Making lasting memories as well as laying the foundation for a thirst for not only learning but wisdom. Wisdom to apply what they learn and wisdom to make good choices and decisions in life.

Every child is a work in progress and we will strive to help each child to be as successful as they can be not only in their learning but their character, their commitments to the world around them, helping them to make themselves and their families proud while they work hard to achieve their personal goals and reach milestones.

BLACK KIDS ACADEMY provides a safe place for children to grow into sensitive, compassionate, independent, accountable, caring, happy contributors to our world. We strive to inspire each one of our children to be confident to effect change in their communities and to challenge and grow themselves. Our desire is that each child will be creative problem solvers, each with unique viewpoints and learning styles. We hope our children will embrace the idea of a more equitable world. We strive to inspire passion and teach children to become protagonists in their own educational journey by fostering their innate sense of curiosity and creativity. We listen to and honor the individual interests and strengths of each child.

The attributes we aspire to have and at the core of who we are and whom we strive to be is:

  • CompassionWe value and nurture the strength of character it takes to work together as a team, to be an individual, to respect differences of opinions, and to have the ability to empathize with others.

  • UniquenessWe value and nurture the confidence that leads to risk-taking, problem-solving, and taking pride in one’s own point of view.

  • InnovationWe value and nurture curiosity, imagination, creativity, experimentation, and perseverance when faced with challenges.
